Somalia president fires top official over pro-Ethiopia comments





Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has dismissed his Health and Nutrition advisor, Abdirashid Jiley, following a controversial video statement. In the video, Jiley openly supported Ethiopia and criticized the Somali government’s plan to allow Egyptian troops into the country. 

Jiley’s remarks, which were made public on Saturday, raised concerns about Somalia’s military alliances and regional stability. He argued that Ethiopia’s role in protecting southern Somalia was crucial and warned that replacing Ethiopian forces with Egyptian troops could escalate tensions in the region. 

Jiley, who is also a member of parliament, has sparked significant debate with his comments. His support for Ethiopia and his critique of the proposed Egyptian troop deployment were seen as conflicting with the official government stance.
