Millions of Somalis ready to confront Ethiopia’s army in case of invasion, says defense minister

MOGADISHU (Adduun) – Somalia’s Defense Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has said that millions of young Somalis stand prepared to defend their country in the event of an Ethiopian invasion, just days after Ethiopia’s army chief, Birhanu Jula, mocked the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s limited control over the nation.

“Jula and Abiy overlook the fact that the Somali people in Jigjiga, Borama, Hargeisa, Bosaso, Galkayo, Baidoa, and Kismayo form a single family united by religion, culture, language, and shared purpose. They are ready and waiting for our signal to defend the nation,” Nur said in a statement on Facebook.

“They underestimate the true strength of the Somali nation, which cannot be gauged by the power of its government alone. If Jula is counting on the might of thousands of uniformed troops and outdated tanks, he fails to recognize that they will face millions of young men who choose death over life and who do not rely on foreign assistance.”

The Somali Defense Minister continued to add that Ethiopia suffered defeats in its recent incursions into Somalia, “lessons that are acknowledged and studied in military academies around the world.”
