Ex-president Farmajo cautions against Somali govt plans to transfer airspace control

MOGADISHU (Adduun) – Somalia’s former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo on Sunday accused the government of the incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of planning to hand over the control of the Somali airspace to the United Arab Emirates.

“We caution the federal government council of ministers against proceeding with plans to transfer control of Somali airspace management, as it threatens the nation’s sovereignty and independence,” Farmajo said in a statement.

“Control of airspace is crucial to our nation’s sovereignty and independence. The current move to transfer this authority to the United Arab Emirates would undermine the sacrifices made in Somalia’s state-building efforts,” he added.
